The preliminary round of the 2014 world cup qualifying matches between
Somalia and Ethiopia which was due in Nairobi on the 11th of November
was transferred to Djibouti as a result of a FIFA ban on Kenya.
The international football governing body FIFA on Monday revealed that
Kenya had been banned from hosting 2014 World Cup qualifying matches
because FKL (Football Kenya Limited) were facing FIFA’s sanctions for
disciplinary and security offences.
The Somali Football Federation was the first that the ban impacted,
because it wanted to use Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on November
11 for its 2014 World Cup preliminary round qualifying match against
Ethiopia.
“We were informed that it was not just about the stadium ban, but
apparently FKL were totally prohibited from doing anything relating to
FIFA matches at home until sanctions against them were lifted” Somali
Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab told the
media before he was wounded in a suicide attack today.
How ever, the Somali-Ethiopian world cup qualifying match will be
transferred to Djibouti where Somalia had always used as a home
country since the SFF cannot host international matches in the country
because of insecurity and lack of suitable soccer facilities.
